Remember don't just participate on the Thursday night net but also when the National Weather Service has activated Skywarn. There are a lot of ways to get notified. If you have a pager or a digital cell phone capable of text messaging a lot of time the providers will have a weather service alert features. Both WeatherChannel.com and Accuweather offer services like that even to your PDA, if you have one with Internet capability. A variety of radio manufacturers make radios with the S.A.M.E. (specific area message encoding) alert system which operates the same as the emergency broadcast systems in that the NWS in Mount Holly broadcasts a watch or warning for your area, the radio will kick on alerting you and will go directly to the NOAA weather radio where you will then hear the advisory. If you have a computer that is on line 24/7 you can go to our Mount Holly Skywarn List Server and subscribe to get watches and warnings sent to you by e-mail.

Use common sense if the weather appears to be getting bad put on N.O.A.A. Weather radio for your area. Go to the Weather Channel, your local news station or your local radio station. They will broadcast the warnings for your area. Remember your training.
